About Me
A New You for the New Year

As I get older, I’m constantly searching for ways to maintain a youthful appearance. I faithfully apply moisturizer to my face two times each day. I also regularly utilize a portable microdermabrasion system. However, despite my efforts, I’m starting to notice some undesirable fine lines around my mouth and under my eyes. Therefore, I may need to step up my plan. I know my available options are plentiful. For example, I could choose to inject collagen into my lips, get Botox injections, or undergo a chemical peel. On this blog, you will learn about the advantages of undergoing various cosmetic procedures.

Have Diabetes And A Foot Ulcer? Treatment Options And Tips To Prevent This From Happening In The Future

Adam Newman

Foot ulcers are common for people that have diabetes, but if you do not inspect your feet constantly, you may not know you had one until it becomes much worse. This is because diabetic people often have neuropathy in their feet, which causes nerve damage.  Fortunately, there are treatment options to help with this problem, three of which are listed below. You will also find information on how to prevent foot ulcers from happening again in the future.

Treatment Options

Debridement is often used to treat foot ulcers. This involves removing necrotic wound tissue from around the ulcer. Because you may not be feeling any pain, the doctor will not know how sensitive the area is. This treatment reduces the amount of pressure that is on the foot ulcer, stimulates healing, and helps the wound drain faster. The doctor will place dressing around your foot during this treatment that you will have to change periodically.

If debridement does not work well for you or your foot ulcer has become much worse, there are other treatment options the doctor can use. One is covering the ulcer with human cells that have been cultured. They may do a skin graft along with heterogenetic dressing to stimulate the wound to heal and new tissue to grow.

If your body is low on oxygen due to a heart condition or a lung condition this can make wounds heal much slower. To take care of this, the doctor may use hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed up the healing process.

Diabetic Foot Ulcer Prevention

The main prevention of diabetic foot ulcers is to make sure your diabetes stays under control. You should check your sugar regularly, especially when you can feel that your sugar is too high. Make sure you are following the right eating plan and are keeping sugar out of your diet. This will make sure your blood glucose levels stay at the right level.

If you have high blood pressure you need to keep this treated as this will affect your oxygen levels. See your doctor to have your blood pressure checked regularly. You can purchase a manual or digital blood pressure monitor to check your pressure at home.

Examine your feet each day for any changes. Use a mirror to help you do this. If you see anything that looks different, see your doctor immediately. You also need to always keep your feet clean and dry. Socks should be always worn no matter if you are outside or inside.  Ask your doctor about the best types of socks to purchase.
