A New You for the New Year

As I get older, I’m constantly searching for ways to maintain a youthful appearance. I faithfully apply moisturizer to my face two times each day. I also regularly utilize a portable microdermabrasion system. However, despite my efforts, I’m starting to notice some undesirable fine lines around my mouth and under my eyes. Therefore, I may need to step up my plan. I know my available options are plentiful. For example, I could choose to inject collagen into my lips, get Botox injections, or undergo a chemical peel. On this blog, you will learn about the advantages of undergoing various cosmetic procedures.

Understanding Skin Cancer And The Importance Of Seeing A Dermatologist Quickly

Adam Newman

When your skin has been exposed over the years to the sun, you are at a higher risk of developing skin cancer. There are three main forms: melanoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and basal cell carcinoma. The problem with skin cancer is that while it is more likely to develop in an area that has had significant sun exposure, it can also develop in other areas of your body. If you are a person who has age spots, moles, or you see changes to your skin that you can't explain, a visit to the dermatologist is in order. Even if your skin issues are no big deal, a dermatologist will be able to look over your skin and test anything that appears suspicious.

New Changes In Your Skin

There are many reasons your skin may have a new brown spot, bump, or something else you can't identify. It is important to seek the services of a dermatologist when you find something new, but remember that changes to your skin can be perfectly normal. If the bump is scaly, hard, or changes shape, you will want to have it checked to make sure there is nothing to worry about. If you have a mole that has changed shape or no longer has easy to identify boundaries, this is also something to have evaluated by your dermatologist.

Sun Exposure and Skin Cancer

To reduce your chances of developing skin cancer, wear protective clothing and always use sunblock. UV rays are the main cause of skin cancer, and you can help prevent the chance of getting skin cancer when you block the sun from your skin.

Treatment for Early Skin Cancer

If you have an area of skin that has been identified as cancerous, your dermatologist will want to have this removed as soon as possible. Depending on the type of skin cancer you have and where the cancer is located, your treatment can involve surgery, freezing of the cancerous lump, chemotherapy, or radiation. You will talk with your treatment team regarding the plan they are going to use to treat your skin cancer and get you healed as soon as possible.

When you are worried about changes to your skin, consult with a dermatologist. If there are any questionable areas of skin, your dermatologist will take a sample for further testing. Don't let skin changes go for long. If the area is cancerous, earlier treatment gives you a better chance of a cure.
