A New You for the New Year

As I get older, I’m constantly searching for ways to maintain a youthful appearance. I faithfully apply moisturizer to my face two times each day. I also regularly utilize a portable microdermabrasion system. However, despite my efforts, I’m starting to notice some undesirable fine lines around my mouth and under my eyes. Therefore, I may need to step up my plan. I know my available options are plentiful. For example, I could choose to inject collagen into my lips, get Botox injections, or undergo a chemical peel. Three Of The "Biggest" Breast Augmentation Myths, And The Real Truth Behind Them

Adam Newman

When it comes to breast augmentation, if there's one thing that's for sure, it's that there's a lot of misinformation out there. Unfortunately, this misinformation often prevents women from getting a procedure done. Here's a look at some of the most common breast augmentation myths, and the real truth behind them.

Myth #1: Breast implants are just for women who want attention

Breast implants come in all sizes, and the majority of women who get one actually opt for a cup size in the B or C range. For many women, it's simply about "filling out" their clothing, or just feeling a little more comfortable in their day-to-day life. A small increase can still look completely appropriate for even the most conservative work environment. Don't assume that every woman who has a breast augmentation is only out for overly large, attention grabbing breasts.

Myth #2: Breast implants require no maintenance

Many believe that getting breast implants only requires a one-time procedure. However, this is not always the case. Whether you received silicone or saline, there is a chance there may be some maintenance procedures to follow. Some may seek to receive larger or smaller implants later on for various reasons. Also, if there are issues with leaking, you may need to have surgery to fix this problem. It may not be necessary to have surgery, but a breast augmentation candidate should be aware that there is a possibility for surgeries down the road.

Myth #3: Breast augmentation creates the look and feel of unnatural breasts

This does not have to be the case. A large implant that doesn't suit your body type would be unwise, of course, but if you choose the correct size, breast implants can look quite natural. Since many women are seeking augmentation to correct breasts affected by pregnancy or aging, they may also opt for augmentation as well as a breast lift in order to help with worries of sagging or drooping and to correct a more natural look. As far as the feel of a breast augmentation, some believe that an implant will be too firm to seem natural. Although there are some differences in the feel of a natural breast versus an augmented breast, implants can serve as a great substitute. The key is to place the correctly-sized implant under the chest muscle in order to preserve softness. Also, some surgeons may prescribe Vitamin E or even some exercises to help keep the breasts feeling soft and natural.

Breast augmentation doesn't have to be a scary experience. It can be the right decision for so many women who wish to gain self confidence, or for those simply looking to have a better body. If you're still unsure, contact a local surgeon with any questions.
